Nineteen Eighty-Four Comes of Age
Y'know, if I wasn't already paranoid about the rabid ramblings of the neocons propping up Bush's administration, the material flowing into my laptop each day from the likes ofortho_bob, supergee and vgnwtch would pretty much seal the deal.
Take, for instance, the charming suggestion from Pastor J Grant Swank (do these guys borrow their names from old Benny Hill scripts?) that all Muslims in the US should be rounded up and placed in prison camps. Replace the word "Muslim" with "Jew" and this all starts to take on an uncomfortable air of familiarity.
Meanwhile, the IRA announces it's disarming and adopting a peaceful, political approach to bringing a united Irish Rebublic into existence (I do hope baseball bats are included, so we don't get any accidental punishment beatings). And this, a mere six days after the British police pumped eight bullets into a suspected terrorist and admitted a secret "shoot to kill" policy. Am I being overly cynical in wondering if the two events are somehow related?
